Maya has her story to tell you:

                             MAYA: The Adventurous Girl

I went to the mall one day and by the end of the day, Maya had joined the family. I adopted her Thursday May 10th 2012, through the Animal Assistance Group. She was only 9 weeks old then, now she is about 15 weeks old and she is also kitty litter trained. I was told that someone went into the Pet Value Pet Store here in the Sault (Sault Marie), with 4 kittens in a bag and just left them in the store without telling anyone. Some time later, the clerk noticed a tiny head pop out of the bag. She  investigated the bag and to her surprise there were 4 very tiny, sick kittens in the bag.

Once the kittens were checked by the vet and given the proper medicine to recover the kittens were placed in Foster Care because they had no mother and were just too young to be adopted out.

Recovered and were up for adoption along with her siblings is Maya.

Although Maya is very small for her age, I think she was the ‘runt of the litter,’ she is full of energy and she investigates anything that moves. She just loves to cuddle up to you with a purr that could melt anyone’s heart. Sasha and Maya have really ‘bonded’ and you wont see one without the other. Now she is attempting to win Xena over and it looks like she is winning her heart to. From the moment Maya came into our home, she just made herself right at home as if she had always been there.

I had not planned on three cats but it seems that each one of these cats made their way into my life and they are here to stay because I couldn’t part with any of them now. Seems they ‘all’ were ‘throw away kitties’ but I believe that EVERY animal born has a reason and a purpose for being here. My life is richer for having these three cats and they all are loved and cherished.

Even the vet remarked that all my cats were ‘very contented’ cats!

All my cats get along perfectly and they are all ‘bonding.’ My cats are indoor cats only and they never give me any kind of problems. If you have your cats fixed they are very good in the house.

They all have had a rough start in life but they found a home where they are loved and safe. I only wish that all cats were as lucky as these ones. And that people think before they carelessly abandon any animal on the side of the street or in a bush and  realize that animals have a purpose too in life and that there are people who really want those abandoned cats. 

These are three stories my cousin wanted to share with my readers and visitors. We both, sincerely hope that Xena, Sasha and Maya and all the other kittens and cats that I have managed to rescue, tame and re-home, have inspired some love and concern for strays, throw-aways and the lost that come round your neighborhoods and doors begging to be let in or for a small morsel of food.

I received an email from my cousin in Ontario, Canada and she has given her permission to share an important issue with you; Here is the first of her three stories:

'I thought I’d share a story with you about my cats. You can post this on you blog if you wish. Maybe this story will make someone think twice before they abandon that kitten or any animal and at least bring the animal to an Animal Shelter where it has a chance to survive and find a good home.'

XENA: My Sweetheart

When I adopted her, I was told that someone had found a box of 4 kittens in the bush and brought them to the Shelter. The kittens went into foster care because they were so young and when they were old enough to be adopted, they landed back at the Humane Society.

I adopted Xena from the Humane Society in 2010 when she was just 6 weeks old. She is 3 years old now, spayed and has all her shots up - to date.

She is such a sweetheart who is so quiet, your lucky if you get a peep out of her throughout the day. She is very good natured. I am not sorry I adopted her.

Xena is not unlike the strays, throw-aways and colony cats here on the diary that I have rescued and re-homed. Tomorrow's story is about Sasha.

Sailor and the Ruined Castle, Con't

 

In the distance lay the town he had tried to integrate into and make his home. But it was daytime! Blue sky held a radiant sun; the day was aglow with warmth and light. Not unlike the environment of his dreams. Sounds of people shouting and the noise of a busy village reached his ears; if he listened closely enough he could hear the sound of the ocean waves. He pictured the harbour and the bustle of activity that was now occurring on the wharf and it was with a fervent longing to be there, among the fishing boats and the tide he so loved... Sailor leapt down from the tree branch and tore through the woods that enclosed him. He knew where he wanted to be and it was no longer in this blue, night-shrouded forest.

~~ GRRREAT NEWS on the Stray Homefront ~~ You Heard It Here First!

Something remarkable happened over the weekend!


Cat Action saw my Ad on Kijiji. Cat Action PEI has offered to take the remaining kittens; spay them, give them their shots and tats, then foster them until someone wants to adopt them. This is BIG NEWS ~~!!


I have had only three emails showing interest in them and have only heard from these people the one time. No one has called to come see them or shown any more interest than the emails. I realize these people might well be interested in adopting them but I still have heard no word from them.

In light of this Grand News and as of 1 pm today, the kittens ~ whom I now call Mutt and Jeff ~ will be in the hands of Cat Action! I will miss the little tikes. They've attached themselves to me and follow me around the house like puppies now. They can be sleeping soundly on their favorite chair but the minute I move from the computer, they are up and following me wherever I go. Should I sit on the sofa, they are up and into my lap, curl up and go to sleep with me petting them. In the mornings, they are up on the bed to greet us. Something our four are decidedly against as that coveted spot belongs exclusively to THEM!

Say Goodbye to them here! 

Today they go to a better place where they will be given more care than just the food and shelter I can provide. 

Merrill and I are very happy things have worked out this way. I will keep the Kijiji Ad up until Cat Action comes to collect them at 1 pm today, then I will change it to reflect what has happened and where people interested in adopting them can find them.

Good News on the Stray Home Front!

This little girl found a home yesterday, March 31st. Actually, she 'chose' them! These kittens are not the most trusting animals and they don't take to just anyone, but she got on well with the couple to adopted her. So, she is off to the loving home she deserves to have. Now I have just these two left.

I have had two emails from people interested, but have heard nothing from them since so they are still available. 


I received an email from Cat Action yesterday. These wonderful people are looking to see if they can arrange for their transport, vetting and foster care in Charlottetown. There are those who care out there and these little ones are very lucky to have people like you and me who will take action and do something to help when someone has thrown them away just because they are female and they either, can't afford or don't want, the the vet bill. There are other ways of dealing with such situations than throwing them from a car! 


I sincerely hope that my readers realize there are other ways and means by which the 'unwanted or no longer wanted' pet can be handled. Trying to survive by eating leftover barley in a cold barn is NOT one of them.

Stray Cat Strut ~ Again.

The little dark tabby kitten who came in on the 29th out of hunger and desperation.

I posted an ad on Kijiji for the kittens; 174 visits and one call came so far. Not everyone is looking for kittens! My hubby found a third kitten in the barn hayloft very early this morning and brought her to me. She is light grey like the other. I should mention here that these are no ordinary cats. They have unusually long legs and very large ears. In fact they almost look part jack-rabbit. They are not deformed in any way and look perfectly normal for cats but they are quite unusual. So much so, that I am having difficulty finding a breed like them on the web and both my husband and I have searched. I am going  to edit my Kijiji ad and add this information into it. 

The sibling the dark tabby brought over yesterday. She is not ready to trust people so easily and runs for shelter whenever I move.

They have successfully survived the winter but only just without human intervention. Even the colony cats have to be fed in winter as there is no prey for them to hunt. They are just beginning to come around and trust me but their hesitancy shows they've been hurt and abused. The barn cats, in staking their own territories out, do not want them around and although there is food for the colony cats, they don't share it with these strays. So these three have suffered abuse from there as well. The fact that I can 'feel' their rib cages, back bone and tail bone testifies to that.

Updated today. The grey kitten on the far right is the sibling my husband brought in this morning. She was hidden in the barn hay loft for warmth. He had to crawl in to get her. All three are pictured here.

PS: Merrill just told me the only reason she was found in the hayloft is because she was crying so loudly! Her siblings were gone and she was alone. If they have been eating anything, its to sneak down from the loft and eat barley that that they find on the floor of the barn.
